I really don't have any websites at this time that I can't live without.  I do use this website to get some Really Cheap magazines subscriptions.  It is for brad's deals at   http://www.bradsdeals.com

1.  I learned that I have a lot to learn.  Guess that is true about almost everything in this world.  I think that I learned the most about making genealogy searches.  I will try to look into this area further.
2.  I think that these databases will be used in my articles that I write for the paper.  I already wrote about the databases in general and will write more about each particular electronic resource in the future.

1.  In Ancestry I searched by my married name and I got information about where I lived but did not get my birth certificate or yearbook.  I then did a search by my maiden name and changed my location, the very first entry was my birth certificate and then my marriage license.
2.  I searched for my grandfather and I was not sure of his exact birthdate, so I took a stab at it.  I found his marriage certificate to my grandmother.  It was interesting because her name was spelled differently than I had seen it spelled.  Both the first and maiden name were spelled wrong according to what I have seen before.  I am not sure if my grandmother changed the spelling.  I will ask my mom if she knows.  I changed the birthdate and then I found a census where my grandfather was 16.  Seeing the original document was very interesting.  It says that he was born in Ireland.  It also says that his parents were born in Ireland and that jives with what I have been told.  I was always told that he was born in Minnesota, but I went looking for his birth certificate and could not find one.  When I have more time I will get more info from Mom and see if she knows for sure where Grandpa Pete was born.  I found his draft card.  There I found where he was born and exact birthdate.  He was born in the US as I suspected.  I will go further into this at a later time.  I know that he did not get drafted because he was already 28 and his parents were his dependents.  He was single at this time.
3.  I may have done something wrong but when I went looking for pictures by searching South Dakota I received a message that said the there were no pictures collections that were unique to South Dakota so I clicked on related pictures.  There I found a picture of a baseball player who once lived in South Dakota.  I then did a search and put SD in quotation marks.  I found a poster that dated to 1890 where cheap land was being advertised for sale.  It was found in the LOC location.
4.  I looked up the town that I had lived in for 37 years until I moved a year ago.  I found an old book on the early history of that county.  It was easy to find where it mentioned that particular town in the book by hitting the HIT arrow.  I note names of people that were there when I first came to town.  Interesting
5.  I chose Hill City, SD.  I don't know everything about it but I am learning.  I chose the 1903 map.  Two buildings on main street are still there.  One was the Community Center which today would be the Black Hills Institute, but this does not jive with the information given by the locals who say that this building was built by the WPA.  There is a plaque by the building that has a number on it that verifies it as a WPA built.  Maybe the building was rebuilt.  The other building was called the Harney Peak Hotel.  It is located exactly where the Alpine Inn is located today.  It seems to be the same size and looks very similar to what is there today.  It would be interesting to see if these were the exact same buildings by doing more research.

Been an interesting week.  Today we had requests for some very unusual books.  One was a book on Iraq.  I did a search on ALEPH for the book.  I did the search by both title and author.  This book was not in SD.  I then did an advanced search on WorldCat and found that only 5 libraries currently had this book for lending.  In the end due to the interest in topics like the War in Iraq I did choose to buy the book instead, but I could have gotten it through WorldCAT.  The book was Letters in the Sandbox.

Then another patron asked for The Road Back by Thomas McPherson Brown, MD.  I first checked to see if it could be the state of SD.  According  to my search it could not.  Then I went to WorldCat.  Under the title and author I could not find the book.  I then did a search with the author's name.  I found that it was included in another book by a different author.  It was availabe in 116 libraries.  The top library was Carl Elliot Regional Library in AL.  The way I clicked on it did not yield the results you asked for.  It went to the library's home page.  Sorry.  I will try this again later.  I clicked on the library of congress and got the following call number RC933 .S28 1993.  The author has not written any other books.

OAIster--I was a little disappointed to see that the first thing that came up was about NORTH DAKOTA.  BUt then I went on and clicked on the picture of the American Soldiers at Wounded Knee  Massacre gathering up the bodies of the Native Americans.  This could be used in a number of ways.  I think this might be helpful for research.

Proquest:
1.  I decided to do a search on heating and cooling a home.  I was especially interested in cove heating and on what is called mini-splits for cooling.  I found only one article on cove heating.  I tried to expand the search by using the term radiant heating and I got a lot of articles but none about cove heating.  I tried the same with mini-splits.  There were more articles and articles with more statistical information which I appreciated.
1a.  I looked at one of the searches done by another blogger.  Again it seemed that person looked up information that was relevant to them.  I saw that because of the topic they chose that they did have to narrow the topic or the amount of information was overwhelming.
2.  I looked up the topic Library in the publication section.  Over 20 publications showed up.  I then chose the American Library publication.  I narrowed it further by choosing the 2010-2012 editions. I did an additional search for e-books because that seems to be a hot topic in libraries.  There were 20 articles concerning this.  I will take time this week to read more article but for now I read two of them.I found them to be more of opinion articles.  I will continue to look for statistics concerning ebooks and the future of e-books in libraries.

Learning Express Library---Here I Go

I set everything up for the testing.  It seemed intuative and very easy.  I took the math GED test.  I was surprised at how difficult it was.  I liked the feedback that I received talking you through the process of finding the answer for the test.  I was happy to see that it did not just give an answer but gave an explanation on how to come to that answer.

I looked at a few courses and found that they would be easy to navigate and that the content had an appropriate reading level.  The e-books that I looked at were fundamental for the topic that they covered.  I thought that some of them needed to be more in depth for my uses, but for someone new to the work force they would be helpful.

Looking forward to use this resource with some of our adult patrons and some of our school-aged patrons.

Here I Go!
World Book 1a & 1b
1.  Here is my Mammal picture.
Alpacas
Their habitat is the mountains of Peru.
2.  The picture is not nearly as cool.  Here it is
Alpaca
There is additional information on the habitat.  It also has more information about the size of the animal.
3.  In the advanced I think that it would be helpful to know where to find maps, primary sources, books on the country(e-books).  The tables were helpful to get quick facts about the country I chose.
4.  It gives you options for reading the article in other languages
World Book 1c
1.  I think that it could be used to find the names of common animals in another language and make a chart to compare how similar or different the animals names are in other countries.
2.  Quite frankly I am not sure how to use it.  I think it would be great to work with ESL students.  They could listen to the article in Spanish and listen to the same article in English.  It may be helpful for students learning Spanish also.
